Journey Through the Erie Canal to The Finger Lakes

Who knew that an engineering marvel like the Erie Canal built in 1825 would still be able to manage to astound almost 200 years later?

Join Jeff and me as we travel through its serpentine passages and ridiculously amazing locks on our way to visit family near Cayuga Lake. We now have 24 locks left behind in our wake – holy cow!

Once we landed in the southern tip of the lake at Ithaca, the real fun began. We were outlandishly fortunate in that my sister-in-law Carole and niece Michelle are friends with the Boatyard Grill restaurant owner Mark and manager Bill after working there long ago, so we were able to stay right at their dock for the duration of our stay. It was such a treat to be able to party with along with my brother Gerry and my sister and brother-in-law who came up from Rhode Island, along with fantastic nieces and nephews and new friends. Certainly serendipity at its best that it all came together so perfectly!

Please come along for a bit of the ride in this video capturing the highlights of this venture. Stay tuned for when we go toward and through Lake Ontario to the St. Lawrence Seaway and Thousand Islands. Yahoo!

  2. I’m enjoying following your adventure. I’ve biked the Erie Canal a couple of times, most recently in 2022 when I rode through a lock, both up and down, on a tourist boat. Great fun. It looks like you are having some beautiful weather, maybe you just don’t take photos on the rainy days. It’s nice to see you smiling faces and relaxed outlook. Onward!
