SHOVING OFF & UNDER WAY! THIS IS FOR REAL!

Original post September 21, 2022

September 21, 2022, the last day of summer, and the very beginning of our great adventure. This is so EXCITING! Exciting, yet bittersweet. Bucksport Marina had turned into a very sweet little home for us. We’d been embraced by so many generous people quick to regale us with great tales, ready laughs, and pearls of advice to guide our journey, most especially Captain Bill and his girlfriend Tina along with Woody and Lucy, Oyster’s former owners. Jeff and I couldn’t be more grateful for all of their help in setting us up for a great start.

Saying goodbye to Bucksport, Maine and HELLO TO THE GRAND ADVENTURE!

Our first big stop will be Rhode Island to see friends and family there and then on to do the same in Connecticut. We’ll bounce down along the coast to get there, seeking out comfortable, protected coves to slip into for the night. Once in Rhode Island we’ll have to get back up to Maine to pick up our car at friends’ Captain Bill’s and Tina’s place. We’ll drive it to Connecticut to leave it there until we can then figure out a way to get it down to Florida. Talk about dealing with some major logistics!

Yesterday we received the heartbreaking news that Woody’s beloved wife Lucy passed on unexpectedly as a result of a medical emergency. It felt so entirely wrong for Jeff and I not to be able to stay, yet we knew that the weather window to get out of Maine was limited. Our only consolation was to believe that Lucy would be along with us, guiding journey from above. To keep our hearts from breaking more, we’ll be sure to stay in contact with Woody as often as possible. Our hearts are truly heavy.

We departed this morning ~ a dreary, overcast Wednesday, September 21. All was quiet around the marina; there wasn’t anyone to say goodbye to. It felt so anticlimactic! Thankfully we’d gotten to say our goodbyes over the last few days to everyone else who’d touched us so deeply.

Goodbye, Bucksport! Thanks for a wonderful kickoff to our life on the water!
