Oyster Discovers Pearls in MICHIGAN! Blog & Video

Well, shiver me timbers and blow me down! Michigan state is full of surprises!

While Jeff and I have only yet cruised halfway down its west side (above and along Lake Michigan’s east side) so far, we’ve already encountered many pearls of this “Mitten State”. It’s dubbed as such for its shape of course, and yet another of Michigan’s slogans also boasts it to be a “Water-Winter Wonderland”. I figured that one out by checking out their license plates 🙂.

And that it seems to be. Granted, I can only speak to the Water Wonderland moniker at this time, but let’s take a little look.

A Water Wonderland of Surprises

  1. Lovely Mackinac Island on Lake Huron above Michigan’s ‘lower peninsula’ is a fabulous summer getaway for locals and tourists alike. Quaint as any Victorian era destination can be, the island doesn’t allow motorized vehicles. Horse drawn carriages and bicycles are ubiquitous – carrying everything from people and goods to materials used for construction. No wonder it’s so charming!
  2. Michigan waters are incredibly pristine, clear, and reveal shades of brightly colored emerald and aqua near its shores. So wild and unexpected!
  3. Another great surprise is that the beach sand is soft and a light tan, equal to what I’ve always sifted my feet through at the Rhode Island oceanside and northeast where I grew up. But wait, I say. These are lakeshores, not seashores!

A few other pearls I find interesting…

4. Michigan has over 150 lighthouses – the most of any other state – or Great Lake.

5. Michigan also has the most boats registered to any state. Who knew?

6. Many of the little towns we’ve been to feature one enormous home after the other, and the coastline of Lake Michigan is filled with them as well. My first question is, who has such big families to fill them anymore? My second is, I wonder if the owners would take pity on we lowly 1974 trawler owners and offer up one of their super yachts to us as a donation 😉?

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the little video blog of the better part of our travels here on Lake Michigan so far. Oh, and let me tell you another little pearl we’ve discovered: Lake Michigan can definitely be beastly! Stay tuned for Part 2 as we make our way to Chicago. I’ll show you what I mean 😳!

Thanks again for coming aboard with us! Trish💗⚓️🎉
