The word “serendipity” has always been an all-time favorite of mine. It has a playful, hop-scotching ring about it, doesn’t it? More than that, its meaning captures some of the greatest joys in life: to be blessed by totally unexpected, happy surprises and discoveries.
After visiting as much of Lake Huron’s glorious Georgian Bay as we could, Jeff and I couldn’t believe that anything could be even remotely as impressive. The North Channel, however, absolutely was, but in its own unique way. For one thing, the incredible rock formations are a much more rugged looking blend of white quartz along with pink and dark granites. The region is also less busy and populated than Georgian Bay with all of its active frenzy of “cottagers” and boaters. Many of the anchorages, therefore, were a touch more isolated and peaceful.
Best of all for Jeff and me was that not only did the North Channel stun us with astounding beauty, but it seemed like every place we went we were gifted with serendipitous new friendships. We happened upon some of the most gracious Canadians and Americans ever who call that part of Ontario home and yet reached out above and beyond to share their special water paradise with us. We also kept meeting up with fabulous fellow “Loopers” to revel in all our exciting first-time experiences as well.
The one thing they all had in common? It is as if we have known each other for years. And because of this, we duly plan to meet up again with each set, be it in Florida or even back here. One thing is true for sure: none of us want to leave behind the magic of our wonderful connections.
So there it is. Serendipity at its best. Young or old, life should be full of happy surprises. Take a peek at the video blog below to see what serendipity meant to us all along Lake Huron’s North Channel. We truly feel blessed and are so very grateful.
Wishing you, too, abounding Serendipity!
P.S. A LITTLE EXTRA FUN
After leaving Oak Bay we went back to Manitoulin Island to meet up with our Sea-dooing friends Shelva and Gerry and her sister Elaine and Dan for dinner. They even took us for a road tour of Gore Bay. Talk about wonderful new friends and a truly special treat!
Great posts, Trish. Keep ‘em coming.
The fireworks remind me of Jeff setting off fireworks from the raft at Camp Mohawk as we all sat on the beach watching
I hope you continue to have warm and sunny days.
Hope
Oh, thanks, Hope! Jeff says he remembers the fireworks at Camp Mohawk and that he was chased off a raft, whatever that means. He sure got a giggle out of the memory 😉!
Oh, you’re so sweet – it really feels like we’re in college again sometimes 😉! And YES! We just have to see each other again in Beaufort. Or better yet, you can visit us in Florida in your handy dandy new RV! Where have you been with it so far? I can’t wait to see it!
